Mexico – World Cup 2026
Mexico will head into the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada desperate to make an impact after coming up short in previous tournaments.
Read on as we offer a comprehensive guide to Mexico at the FIFA World Cup this summer.
Mexico at the 2026 World Cup
- Group: A
- Manager: Javier Aguirre
- Captain: Edson Alvarez
- Best finish: Quarter-finals (1970 & 1986)
- Next match: Mexico vs South Africa
Mexico have been drawn in Group A alongside South Korea (FIFA-ranked 25th), Czechia (41st) and South Africa (60th).
While the group could be tricky, home advantage should help Mexico progress to the knockout stage.
Mexico drew with Portugal and Belgium in friendlies earlier this year and will fancy their chances of making a deep run at the tournament.
If Mexico win the group, they would face the third-placed team from Group C, E, F, H or I in the round of 32.

Mexico turned to a familiar face to reignite their World Cup 2026 hopes, with Javier Aguirre taking charge of the national team for his third spell in charge.
The 65-year-old was appointed alongside national icon Rafael Marquez, who will take over from Aguirre after the co-hosted home World Cup.
Aguirre has pieced together an impressive record since returning in 2024, winning 15 and drawing eight of his 27 matches in charge.
Mexico’s performances against Portugal and Belgium highlighted their ability to make life difficult for top teams. They could be dangerous this summer.
