Canada – World Cup 2026

Canada will head into the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada with the hopes of a nation resting on their shoulders.

Read on as we offer a comprehensive guide to Canada at the FIFA World Cup this summer.

Canada at the 2026 World Cup

  • Group: B
  • Manager: Jesse Marsch
  • Captain: Alphonso Davies
  • Best finish: Group stage (1986 & 2022)
  • Next match: Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina

Canada have been drawn in Group B alongside Switzerland (FIFA-ranked 19th), Qatar (55th) and Bosnia & Herzegovina (65th).

They have never previously progressed beyond the group stage and will be desperate to set the record straight this summer.

Switzerland are the strongest team in the group. They have reached the round of 16 in each of the previous three World Cups.

If Canada win the group, they would face the third-placed team from Group E, F, G, I or J in the round of 32.

Canada Manager

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch took charge of the Canadian national team in May 2024.

He recently signed a four-year contract extension, which will take him through until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

Marsch has overseen 14 wins, seven draws and eight defeats in his 29 games in charge, and will fancy his chances of guiding Canada to the knockout stage this summer.

Canada have never previously picked up a point at the World Cup, but should be more competitive under Marsch on home soil.

Key Players

Alphonso Davies

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is Canada’s talisman, providing the team with attacking thrust down the left flank.

However, Marsch has confirmed that he may miss their opening game against Bosnia, which would be a blow to their chances of winning.

Jonathan David

Canada’s all-time leading goalscorer has had a poor season with Juventus in Serie A, but generally delivers at international level.

He was previously a prolific goalscorer with Lille in Ligue 1.

Ismael Kone

Ismael Kone is a composed central midfielder who dictates the tempo and controls the middle of the pitch.

He helped Rennes finish sixth in Ligue 1 this term, which secured Europa League qualification for next season.

Tajon Buchanan

Tajaon Buchanan is an explosive winger who provides Canada with width, creative flair and goalscoring opportunities.

He has scored eight goals in 58 appearances for the national team and is expected to play a key role this summer.

Moise Bombito

Centra-back Moise Bombito has been in a race against time to recover from a fractured tibia sustained last October.

Bombito recently returned to action and has been tipped to start in defence in the opening game.
