Bayern keeping tabs on Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as they consider January move

Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, according to Sport.

The Bundesliga giants are considering signing him to bolster their defence during the winter transfer window if they sell Kim Min-jae.

Bayern have reportedly permitted Min-jae to find a new club. The South Korean centre-back is valued at around €40 million.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs to have shown interest, while AC Milan have also made enquiries.

Selling him would allow Bayern to generate funds and reduce their wage bill before bringing in a replacement.

The German champions have identified Benfica defender Tomas Araujo as a potential target. He is reportedly available for around €35m.

However, Kounde is a more ambitious option for Bayern. His versatility makes him an attractive option.

The France international can operate at centre-back or right-back. That flexibility could make him an ideal fit for Vincent Kompany’s tactical approach.

Despite signing a contract extension until 2030, the 27-year-old has mostly been the back-up right-back, with manager Hansi Flick making Eric Garcia his first choice.

Kounde’s game time decreased last season, but he chose to fight for his place.

He has not indicated that he wants to leave Barcelona and remains focused on earning a more prominent role.

Kounde and Bayern have not spoken yet, but they are aware he may consider a January move if his circumstances do not improve.
