Man City break silence after 114 financial charges verdict as chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak vows to prove club’s innocence

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has broken the club’s silence after the club was found guilty on 114 of the 115 Premier League financial regulation charges brought against them.

The verdict ended a long investigation, although the independent commission’s full findings and any potential punishment are yet to be decided. City are also expected to appeal.

Al Mubarak addressed supporters on Saturday, insisting that the club’s belief in proving its innocence remains as strong as it was when the case began.

“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he wrote on City’s official website.

He explained that City could not provide supporters with more details because of the confidentiality surrounding the case, adding that even his letter had undergone legal checks.

He also urged fans to revisit the club’s previous statements on the case, including its February 2023 response to the Premier League charges.

In those statements, City said they welcomed an independent commission to consider the evidence in their defence.

City’s statement on Friday had similarly stressed that the Premier League process is still ongoing.

Al Mubarak also pushed back against what he described as conclusions being drawn by the media, telling supporters that nothing has changed regarding the club’s position.

The latest development leaves City facing uncertainty.

There has been talk of record point deductions, demotions and the retraction of silverware, but no one knows what punishment City will face or how long the process will take.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs are exploring legal action against Man City.
