Sunderland midfielder Enzo Le Fee has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract until 2031.
The 26-year-old has established himself as an important figure for the Black Cats since initially joining on loan from Roma in January 2025.
His move became permanent following promotion from the Championship, and he has subsequently played a major role in the club’s impressive progress under Regis Le Bris.
Le Fee made 36 appearances last term, contributing five goals and six assists as Sunderland finished seventh in their first Premier League season back in the top flight.
That achievement also secured European qualification, completing a remarkable rise for a club that competed in League One as recently as 2022.
Le Fee has continued to deliver this season and recently scored the winner against AZ Alkmaar in Sunderland’s return to European competition after more than five decades.
The Frenchman converted from the penalty spot in the second half to secure a 1-0 Europa League victory at the Stadium of Light.
His new agreement is another clear sign of his commitment to Sunderland, extending his previous contract by two years.
Le Fee said he had felt the ambition surrounding Sunderland from the moment he arrived and believes there is considerably more for the club to achieve.
“We’ve achieved something special together over the past couple of seasons, but I believe this is just the beginning,” he said.
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi also described the midfielder as an important player and personality within the dressing room, highlighting his quality, intelligence and humility.
Le Fee’s Sunderland story began in the Championship, where he helped Le Bris’ team earn promotion through the play-offs.
He supplied two assists across their semi-final victory over Coventry City, including the delivery for Dan Ballard’s dramatic second-leg winner, before starting the play-off final victory over Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium.
His importance has only increased since Sunderland returned to the Premier League.
Le Fee has already scored twice this season, with his performances helping Sunderland balance their domestic commitments with a long-awaited return to European football.
After promotion, European qualification and a historic continental victory, Sunderland have now ensured one of the central figures in their rapid development will remain on Wearside for the foreseeable future.
