Real Madrid call for Javier Tebas to be dismissed after latest comments

Real Madrid have called for Javier Tebas to be removed as La Liga president after launching a furious response to his latest criticism of the club.

Tebas dismissed the club’s complaints about refereeing after their Madrid derby defeat.

The La Liga president also appeared to take a swipe at Real Madrid TV, calling it ‘regime television’.

“When it’s not (Jose Maria Enriquez) Negreira, it’s the referee,” he said. “Take the blindfold off! Nobody with any common sense believes the same old excuse anymore.”

Tebas then doubled down several hours later, arguing that claims referees are being directed against Madrid amount to conspiracy theories.

“It’s easier to point to a conspiracy than to explain what is happening on the field,” he added.

Madrid responded around 10 hours later with a strongly worded statement, accusing Tebas of repeatedly using his position to attack the club.

The Spanish giants described his behaviour as ‘intolerable’ and said it was deeply concerning that the La Liga president was seemingly obsessed with Madrid.

The club also criticised Tebas for commenting on an article by an independent journalist while using the opportunity to assess Madrid’s sporting strategy, calling that ‘absurd and irresponsible’.

Madrid went further by questioning whether Tebas can fulfil his institutional responsibilities, claiming his public attacks are damaging the image of La Liga and Spanish football.

The club ultimately called for a change at the top of Spanish football, insisting that La Liga needs a leader who understands the role is to serve its member clubs rather than act as the owner of the competition.

Madrid said Spanish professional football ‘urgently needs a leader who can manage it while upholding the principle of neutrality’, effectively calling for Tebas’ dismissal.
