Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is seriously considering ending his long-standing relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Hildage has represented Alvarez throughout his professional career, but he is considering a change as he tries to resolve the fallout from this summer’s transfer saga involving Barcelona.
The Argentina international has reportedly already held talks with The Elegant Game, the agency founded by former Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina midfielder Javier Pastore.
The company also represents Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernandez and helped him force a move out of Chelsea. Fernandez is a close friend of the Atletico forward.
No final decision has been made, but the possibility of a split has reportedly been raised with Alvarez for some time.
People close to the 26-year-old are said to believe Hidalgo did not handle his affairs as effectively as he could have during the uncertainty over his future.
The saga created considerable tension between the player, Atletico and their supporters.
Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin criticised the way Alvarez’s situation was handled, appearing to place significant blame on the player’s representatives and Barcelona.
While he wanted to join the La Liga giants, Atletico were ready to sell to anyone but the team they are trying to topple at the top of the league standings.
The ex-City star is yet to make amends after destroying his relationship with Atletico fans by trying to force a move to their rivals, even though he delivered an assist against Liverpool this week.
He has made three appearances but has yet to bag a goal. This change of representation means the saga may not be over.
It is unclear whether Atletico will continue to block his move to Barcelona. A potential change suggests he is ready to keep fighting for the transfer.
