Cristiano Ronaldo named in Portugal squad for Nations League

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to continue his international career beyond the 2026 World Cup.

The experienced forward has been included in Portugal’s squad for the upcoming Nations League games.

The Selecao face Wales, Norway (twice) and Denmark during the international break.

Ronaldo said this summer’s World Cup was his last, but he is yet to announce his retirement from international football.

Lionel Messi said ‘goodbye’ to Argentina last month, and the Portuguese star was expected to follow suit.

However, Ronaldo is not yet ready to bring the curtain down on his illustrious international career.

The 41-year-old is part of a 25-man squad selected by Jorge Jesus. He managed Al-Nassr when they won the Saudi Pro League title last season.

Jesus, who has previously managed Benfica and Sporting CP, was appointed Portugal’s boss in July.

He replaced Roberto Martinez, who stepped down after Portugal’s World Cup exit.

Ronaldo has scored a record 146 goals for Portugal. The former Real Madrid star became the first player to score at six World Cups last summer.

However, his performances drew criticism from fans who were unhappy with his reduced mobility and minimal defensive contribution.

He will be 43 by the time the 2028 European Championship is staged.
