Former Nottingham Forest director Edu has joined Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia as part of a new five-person board just a week after leaving City Ground, according to The Athletic.
Edu left Forest after his contract was terminated, although his exit was expected for some time.
The Brazilian was set to leave the City Ground back in March. He had not attended a Forest match since they faced Liverpool in February.
Edu joined Forest in July 2025 after five successful years at Arsenal. He initially worked as the club’s first technical director before becoming sporting director and playing an important role in shaping the squad.
His reputation for recruitment and long-term planning later convinced Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to bring him into a wider position covering his football clubs.
That role included Greek giants Olympiacos and Portuguese club Rio Ave. Edu was tasked with overseeing recruitment, player development, squad planning and football operations across the group.
However, the ambitious project never reached its intended potential. Edu was effectively away from his Forest duties from the spring, and his official departure eventually became a formality.
The Brazilian executive has now moved on to Levski, where his experience will come in handy as the club looks to build on a remarkable season.
Levski won the league title last season, ending Ludogorets’ extraordinary 14-year reign.
The Sofia club believes Edu can help build a stronger, more sustainable football structure as it looks to remain competitive at the top of Bulgarian football.
The club has not yet confirmed Edu’s exact responsibilities, but the newly formed board will elect a chairman and an executive director at its next meeting.
Edu was not involved in Forest’s move for manager Oliver Glasner, and the club has no plans to replace him.
