Should Liverpool offer Alexis Mac Allister a new contract?

Alexis Mac Allister is unhappy that Liverpool have not offered him a new contract.

His public comments received a mixed reception from the Reds’ supporters. Some fans claimed he should let his football do the talking.

Mac Allister did just that by leading his team to a 2-1 Champions League victory against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Liverpool conceded first in the Anfield encounter. Milos Kerkez failed to track Marcos Llorente, who brilliantly converted Julian Alvarez’s ball in the 17th minute.

Dominik Szoboszlai restored parity for the hosts, finishing past Jan Oblak after a fine pass from Ronald Araujo.

Mac Allister turned the contest decisively in Liverpool’s favour after the break with a sensational long-range strike.

The Argentine had 48 touches during his 69 minutes on the pitch. He won every tackle and aerial duel.

The 27-year-old was dribbled past once and received a yellow card for a late challenge on Lee Kang-in in the first half.

Should Mac Allister be offered a new contract?

The midfielder has been a valuable member of Liverpool’s squad since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.

He has made 154 senior appearances and played a key role in helping the Reds win the Premier League title in 2024-25.

However, his performance levels dropped last season, as Liverpool finished fifth in the league. The club were right not to offer him a new deal.

But he has made a strong start this season, featuring in all four games across all competitions.

If he continues this form, there is no reason Liverpool should not reward him with a new contract.
