Edu leaves Nottingham Forest as club terminates his contract

Edu has officially left Nottingham Forest after the club terminated his contract (Sky Sports).

The Brazilian’s spell was cut short following a difficult period at the club. He lasted just over a year after he was appointed global head of football.

Forest aren’t expected to make any formal announcement about his exit and have no plans to appoint a replacement for now.

Edu had been away from the club for several months. He had not attended a Forest match since February and had not been seen at either the City Ground or the training ground since early March.

His expected departure was first reported around that time but has now been confirmed.

George Syrianos has already taken on more responsibility at Forest following Edu’s absence. He was also handed a bigger role after Ross Wilson left to join Newcastle United in October last year.

Edu joined Forest in July 2025 after five years at Arsenal. He worked across Evangelos Marinakis’ wider football group, which included Greek club Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.

However, after a disappointing season that had Forest in a relegation dogfight, Edu’s position became untenable.

With Forest battling to preserve their Premier League status, they went through managers at an unusual pace and ended up with four different permanent head coaches by the end of the season.

It was an incredible fall from grace, especially after competing for European places under Nuno Espirito Santo. They only missed out on Champions League football by a point in 2024/25.

Edu was the primary culprit in Nuno’s shocking exit in September 2025. Forest then turned to Ange Postecoglou, who only lasted 39 days.

The Australian was succeeded by Sean Dyche, who was subsequently replaced by Vitor Pereira.

Pereira ultimately steered the club to safety but was ultimately dumped when former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner became available.

Edu’s recruitment hardly inspired confidence, with Omari Hutchinson, Douglas Luiz and Oleksandr Zinchenko struggling to make an impact.
