Everton not looking at free agents despite chaotic end to the summer

Everton are not looking to sign free agents despite failing to sign Folarin Balogun on deadline day, per The Telegraph.

Balogun looked poised to join Everton after they agreed a deal worth £40 million with Monaco. 

The transfer was thrown into doubt after the Merseyside club found issues in his medical. Everton negotiated a lower fee for Balogun, but he walked away from the deal. 

The 25-year-old was reportedly unhappy with how the Premier League club treated him. 

Failure to sign Balogun means Everton are left with only one recognised striker in Thierno Barry. They sold Beto to Serie A club Fiorentina. 

Despite their need for reinforcements, the Blues will not explore the free-agent market. 

Everton are also short of options at full-back. They lost Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson but only signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon. 

Jack Grealish’s return on loan is a positive, but several key exits have weakened their squad. 

Iliman Ndiaye left to join Manchester City for £60m. Tim Iroegbunam and Nathan Patterson completed moves to Hull City and Torino respectively. 

Manager David Moyes has performed an impressive job since returning to Everton last year. 

He led them to Premier League safety after arriving in January and secured a 13th-place league finish last term. 

Moyes deserved to be backed in the transfer market, but the club’s hierarchy did not support him.
