Barcelona refuse to give up on Julian Alvarez as club plans fresh move for Atletico Madrid star

Barcelona failed to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer. 

However, the Catalan giants are refusing to give up on the 26-year-old. 

Journalist Santi Ovalle says Barcelona are already plotting a blockbuster move for Alvarez in 2027. 

They pushed hard to prise the forward away from Atletico, but they maintained they wouldn’t sell him to a direct rival. 

Barcelona eventually signed Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal to address their immediate need for a striker. 

However, the Brazilian’s arrival is a short-term fix, and they are determined to sign Alvarez next year.

The Blaugrana deliberately held back funds this summer to renew their pursuit of the Argentina international in 2027. 

Alvarez has significantly enhanced his reputation as one of the best forwards in the world since joining Atletico in 2024. 

He is a proven goalscorer, renowned for his relentless work rate and tactical intelligence. 

The Argentine has bagged 49 goals and 17 assists in 107 senior appearances for Atletico. 

Alvarez has a contract with the Madrid club until 2030, but he made it clear he wanted to join Barcelona this summer. 

Atletico did not grant his wish because they didn’t want to strengthen a direct La Liga rival.

They were willing to consider a big offer from Arsenal, but he wasn’t interested in joining them.
