Barcelona avoid €10m payment to Manchester City after Ferran Torres agreement

Barcelona have avoided paying Manchester City €10 million after agreeing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Ferran Torres, according to journalist Nil Sola.

Torres is set to join PSG for less than €50m after agreeing a five-year contract.

Barcelona would have paid €10m to City if they had sold Torres for €55m or more, based on a clause in the deal that took him to Spain in 2022.

They would have also paid the Cityzens €8m if they had renewed his contract.

Avoiding the additional €10m payment and generating a profit from the sale is a significant financial boost for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona will be without a natural senior striker if the Spain international completes his move to PSG, having allowed Robert Lewandowski to leave as a free agent.

The Catalan club have made Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez a target, but a move is currently unlikely. They previously submitted a €100m bid for Alvarez, but Atletico insist he is not for sale.

Barcelona have considered Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi as alternatives to the former Man City forward.

However, Kane is set to extend his contract with the Bavarians, while Kroupi is expected to spend three to four months on the sidelines after suffering a foot injury.

Barcelona will begin their La Liga title defence at Elche on August 23.
