Manchester City reject Barcelona’s £38.5m offer for Rodri

Barcelona have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Manchester City star Rodri. 

However, their opening offer of £38.5 million was rejected by City, per BBC Sport. 

The Citizens reportedly want more than £60m to sell the midfielder. He is reportedly keen on a move to Barca.  

It is unclear whether the La Liga giants return with a higher offer. 

City want to keep Rodri as they view him as a key part of their plans for the 2026-27 season. 

However, with his contract expiring in June 2027, they risk losing him for nothing next summer. 

Madrid are also strongly linked with an interest in Rodri, and they are willing to spend up to £43m to secure his services. 

Despite their weak negotiating position, City want a premium fee for Rodri.

He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. His passing, composure, aerial dominance and stamina are largely unmatched in the modern game.

The 30-year-old won the Golden Ball for his crucial role in helping Spain win the World Cup for the first time since 2010 this summer. 

Rodri has won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and three League Cups since joining City from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
