Tolu Arokodare joins Ajax on loan from Wolves

Nigeria international striker Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He joins the Dutch giants on an initial loan deal until next summer, with an option to join them permanently for around £17 million.

He becomes the eighth Nigerian to represent the club.

Arokodare eager to put Wolves misery behind him

Tolu Arokodare is joining an Ajax side that is seeking a fresh start after finishing fifth in the Eredivisie last season.

The Amsterdam giants have appointed Spanish tactician Michel to lead them into a new era.

Arokodare spent the 2025-26 season with Wolves in the Premier League, having joined from KRC Genk last summer.

The 25-year-old scored just six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions last term.

The striker had a publicised training ground spat with new Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto, accelerating his exit this summer.

Arokodare will join Marcos Leonardo as the Dutch club’s new strikers for the 2026-27 campaign, with Wout Weghorst having left the club for FC Twente.

Arokodare is the first Nigerian to represent the Dutch giants since defender Calvin Bassey in 2023.

He is a penalty box expert, with his height and movement making him a dangerous proposition.

Arokodare will add a significant goal threat to Ajax as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season.
