Jeff Bezos in talks to join consortium seeking minority stake in Liverpool

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached to join a consortium of investors to buy a minority stake in Liverpool. 

According to Sky Sports, Bezos has held talks about joining the consortium led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of business tycoon Lakshmi Mittal. 

The 62-year-old reportedly boasts a fortune worth around $257 billion, making him the world’s fourth richest person. 

Bezos has previously explored bids for National Football League (NFL) franchises Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but didn’t proceed with either deal. 

The Amazon tycoon has never considered investing in the Premier League, but could join the consortium seeking to buy a stake in Liverpool.  

The Reds are currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who purchased the club in 2010. 

The club have enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their modern history under the American owners, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League. 

FSG explored the possibility of attracting new investment in recent years before deciding to sell only minority stakes. 

American investment firm Dynasty Equity purchased a minority stake in Liverpool in a deal worth around £150m last year.
