Javier Tebas backs Barcelona’s complaint against Florentino Perez in ‘Negreira case’ row

La Liga president Javier Tebas has backed Barcelona’s claims against Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as the growing debacle over the ‘Negreira case’ continues.

According to SPORT, Tebas has sent a written response to Barcelona after the club asked the Spanish football authorities to address statements Perez made about the case.

Barcelona had urged La Liga, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) to respond to remarks they believe could damage the league’s reputation.

While Tebas did not announce any immediate disciplinary action, his response is a strong show of support for Barcelona’s concerns. 

The La Liga president agrees that certain comments have the potential to cast doubt on the integrity of Spanish football, the credibility of referees and the overall image of the domestic game.

Tebas also reminded Barcelona that La Liga has previously acted when it believed criticism of referees crossed acceptable boundaries. 

He pointed to several cases involving communications and content linked to Madrid, including complaints about material broadcast by Real Madrid TV and public criticism of match officials.

According to Tebas, La Liga has not ignored situations it considers harmful to the competition. 

He noted that some of those disputes are still being handled through legal and regulatory processes, demonstrating the league’s willingness to intervene when necessary.

Barcelona’s complaint was triggered by comments Perez made suggesting that titles won by the club had been ‘stolen’ in connection with the ongoing Negreira controversy. 

Club officials argued that such remarks unfairly cast suspicion over refereeing decisions and the legitimacy of past competitions.

Tebas was careful to single out the legal investigation into the Negreira case and the broader reputation of Spanish football.

He stressed that La Liga is actively involved in efforts to clarify the facts surrounding the case, but warned against using the investigation as a basis for questioning league titles, match results or the validity of current competitions.
