Real Madrid agree deal to sign Cucurella from Chelsea

Real Madrid have agreed to sign Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella in a deal worth over €50 million (£43m), according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Spain international defender reportedly wanted to leave Stamford Bridge this summer due to Chelsea’s inconsistency and now seems set to join Madrid.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were linked with Cucurella, but Madrid have won the race.

Cucurella will shine with Madrid

Cucuralle will fit right into Mourinho’s system. After a difficult first season at Chelsea, he established himself as one of the best in the world in his position.

He did not have the best 2025/26 campaign, but Madrid are banking on him bouncing back when he returns home.

As for Chelsea, they can decide not to spend money on a replacement, given the depth of their talent.

Geovany Quenda joins this summer and has played extensively at both right and left-wing back positions for Sporting CP.

This is perfect for new manager Xabi Alonso, who operated with a back three at Bayer Leverkusen.

If he goes with a back four, Chelsea also signed Jorrel Hato last summer, who can play as a centre-half and a left-back.

Valentin Barco is poised to join Chelsea and can play as a left-back, left-wing-back, or in midfield.

The Blues might still decide to dip into the market for reinforcements, but any additions must be world-class, as the squad is seriously crying out for quality.
