Tottenham will do ‘their best’ to keep Pedro Porro despite Man City and Real Madrid interest

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a big summer after surviving the relegation battle last season.

They have already agreed to sign Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers.

Besides strengthening their squad with new signings, Spurs are not prepared to listen to offers for key players.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham will ‘do their best‘ to keep right-back Pedro Porro, who has been linked with Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Madrid could now turn their attention to Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, while City could pivot towards Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento in their search for a new right-back.

Why Tottenham are reluctant to sell Porro

The Portuguese was one of Spurs’ most consistent players in a disappointing season that resulted in them finishing 17th in the Premier League.

He made 47 appearances across all competitions, bagging two goals and six assists.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi’s arrival gave Porro a more prominent role, with and without the ball.

When Tottenham are in possession, he inverts into the midfield to progress the ball and beat the opposition’s press.

Joao Palhinha, who is uncomfortable with the ball at his feet, then drops to right-back. He returns to his normal position whenever Tottenham lose possession.

Porro is expected to keep playing that way under the Italian next season, particularly if Palhinha is signed permanently.

Losing the Portuguese would be a major setback for Spurs, as there are few right-backs capable of matching his quality.

Replacing him would also cost them a significant fee, potentially affecting their plans to strengthen other positions.
