Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.
The Spanish giants are expected to activate the €20 million release clause in Dumfries’ contract, having already agreed personal terms with him.
The deal is effectively complete and only the formal steps remain before Madrid officially announce the signing.
Dumfries had attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, but he prioritised a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The move comes as Madrid prepare for life without long-serving captain Dani Carvajal, who is due to leave the club this summer.
Madrid already secured the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the club have continued to search for further depth at right-back.
Incoming manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly placed strengthening the defence at the top of his agenda ahead of his expected return to the club.
Dumfries fits the profile Madrid have been targeting.
The former PSV Eindhoven defender has established himself as one of Europe’s most reliable attacking full-backs during his time with Inter.
Since arriving in Italy in 2021, he has become a key figure for the Nerazzurri and played an important role in their domestic and European success.
His combination of physicality, pace and attacking output has made him one of the most effective wing-backs in European football.
Madrid believe his experience and tactical discipline will provide a different option alongside Alexander-Arnold next season.
The relatively modest transfer fee is also viewed as excellent value in the current market.
Inter paid around €15m to sign Dumfries from PSV five years ago and will still make a profit despite losing an established first-team player.
Madrid are also working to strengthen other defensive positions, with Ibrahima Konate remaining a target following confirmation that he will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract.
