Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to show ‘ambition’ and sign Europa League winner this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has set his sights on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners won their first Premier League title in 22 years and came close to adding the Champions League trophy last season.

Arteta reportedly sent a clear message to Arsenal’s hierarchy after losing Saturday’s final to Paris Saint-Germain at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

He told the club to show ‘ambition’ in the transfer market and make marquee additions to take them to the next level.

The Mirror claims Rogers is on Arteta’s wishlist. The Spaniard likes versatile players, and Rogers can play as an attacking midfielder and a left winger.

But Arsenal face competition from PSG, who are also impressed with the player’s development at Villa.

Rogers has had an excellent 2025-26 campaign, making 17 goal contributions in 37 league appearances to help his side secure Champions League qualification.

The 23-year-old also played a pivotal role in the Lions’ Europa League triumph, scoring three goals in 15 matches.

Villa could be open to selling their prized asset to help balance the books. However, a deal is expected to cost an enormous fee, with the forward’s contract not expiring until 2031.

Arsenal spent £250 million last summer, and may need to sell before bringing in new players.

Gabriel Martinelli is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium, while Gabriel Jesus is also facing an uncertain future at the club.
