Manchester City star Josko Gvardiol has ‘clear desire’ to join Real Madrid

Josko Gvardiol could leave Manchester City this summer, following links with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Gvardiol has cast further doubts on his future with his comments in a recent interview.

“After the World Cup, we’ll see what happens next,” the Croatian defender said.

AS claims the 24-year-old has a ‘clear desire’ to join Madrid. Gvardiol has two years left on his contract, meaning this could be City’s last chance to recoup a significant fee from his sale.

However, the Cityzens are not prepared to sell the former RB Leipzig man and are aiming to give him a long-term deal.

Madrid should attempt to sign Gvardiol

Madrid were without a solid centre-back pairing last season.

David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and Raul Asencio all spent several weeks on the sidelines through injury. Dean Huijsen also struggled in his first season at the club.

Alaba has now departed as a free agent, while uncertainty continues to surround the other centre-backs, raising the need to strengthen that department.

Gvardiol would be a good fit for Madrid, given the quality he has displayed since joining Man City.

His ability to play at left-back makes him a more attractive target than Ibrahima Konate.

The Croatian international is comfortable with the ball at his feet, press-resistant and can dribble, making it easy for him to progress the ball further up the pitch.

Gvardiol also gives an attacking presence, having registered two goals and five assists across all competitions last term.

He possesses strong positional awareness, acceleration and strength.

However, his focus is questionable at times, and he is not a good crosser when deployed at left-back.

Despite this, he would be an excellent signing for Madrid, and they should push the boat out to sign him.
