PSG beat Arsenal on penalties to retain the Champions League title

Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties to win the Champions League final on Saturday.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Kai Havertz picked up a loose ball, ran into the area and blasted it into the roof of the net.

He became the third player to score for two different sides in the Champions League final, following Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic.

PSG created their first chance in the 43rd minute, when Fabian Ruiz headed wide from inside the area.

Havertz missed a chance to double the Gunners in the first half stoppage time, but Marquinhos made a vital block to prevent him from troubling Matvey Safonov.

Hakimi stung Raya’s palms in the 55th minute as PSG started the second half aggressively.

The Arsenal goalkeeper was eventually beaten from the penalty spot, with Ousmane Dembele sending him the wrong way.

The Frenchman joined Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Diego Milito and Sadio Mane as the only players to score in every knockout game of a single Champions League season.

Dembele missed a good chance to put PSG ahead when he picked up Raya’s misplaced pass, but he dragged his effort wide.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then struck the woodwork with his shot ricocheting off Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Bradley Barcola missed a good chance to score a late winner, sending the game into extra time.

Both teams failed to find the winner in extra time, forcing the game to penalties.

Lucas Beraldo scored the decisive spot-kick for PSG, securing their second Champions League title.
