AC Milan schedule talks with Glasner after failing to appoint Iraola

AC Milan have scheduled talks with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner next week, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

After failing to appoint Andoni Iraola, Milan have turned to Glasner. They recently met with Ralf Rangnick over a non-managerial role, and Glasner is likely his idea.

The seven-time Champions League winners are coming off a disappointing campaign in which they started brilliantly but tailed off.

Milan put together an impressive unbeaten streak in the first half of the season. However, they lost steam by January and desperately needed reinforcements.

Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic were struggling to combine, while striker Santiago Gimenez was goalless and dealing with injuries.

The club’s hierarchy decided to sign West Ham United flop Niclas Fullkrug, and it only got worse from there.

After missing out on Champions League qualification, Milan dismissed manager Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.

Glasner is exactly what Milan need

Glasner could be the jolt Milan need after the deflating football delivered by Allegri.

His team looked passive, predictable and mentally drained once the early momentum disappeared.

Glasner’s high-intensity approach would immediately raise the energy levels, bringing aggressive pressing, quicker transitions and a far clearer attacking structure.

His teams play with bravery and purpose, two qualities Milan sorely lacked during the run-in. He is also a winner, which is quite important.

The potential addition of Rangnick behind the scenes may be just as important.

Milan’s recruitment has become increasingly erratic, with expensive short-term fixes and poorly thought-out signings leaving the squad imbalanced.

Rangnick’s track record in squad building and talent identification could help restore coherence to the sporting project and steer Milan away from questionable deals.
