Barcelona have made their first official move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, submitting a €100 million offer.
The proposal consists of a straight cash payment with no add-ons or player exchanges included.
The Catalan giants have identified Alvarez as their priority attacking target and are pushing to secure a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona have already held discussions with the player’s representatives and believe personal terms will not be an obstacle if an agreement can be reached with Atletico.
However, the Madrid club are not expected to accept the opening proposal.
Atletico are reportedly demanding a significantly higher fee for the Argentina international, whose contract runs until 2030.
The situation has gathered further momentum after media outlets claimed that Alvarez told Atletico he wants to leave this summer.
That development has increased speculation surrounding his future, although Atletico remain determined to protect their position during negotiations.
The 26-year-old has been admired by Flick and sporting director Deco for some time, with the club monitoring his progress closely over the past year.
The World Cup winner is Barcelona’s preferred option in the centre-forward position due to his work rate, movement, finishing ability and versatility across the front line.
Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in a deal worth up to €95 million in 2024 and has established himself as one of the most influential players in their squad.
He scored 20 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions this season, including 10 goals in 15 Champions League matches.
His performances have also attracted interest from elsewhere, with several Premier League clubs linked with the striker in recent months.
Barcelona’s pursuit comes during an ambitious summer in which they are also working on other major additions as they seek to build on their recent domestic success.
The club believe improvements in their financial position have given them greater flexibility in the transfer market compared to previous transfer windows.
