Atletico Madrid to rival Barcelona for Bernardo Silva after issuing a hands-off warning over Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid are ready to rival Barcelona for Bernardo Silva this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The Portuguese midfielder is leaving Manchester City after ten years at the end of June, and several clubs want to sign him.

Barcelona, Benfica and Saudi Pro League clubs are in the race to sign Silva, but Atletico have entered the picture.

Silva showed this season that he still has a lot to offer.

He served as a problem-solver for Man City across different areas of play, providing solutions in the build-up, congested middle and in organising in the final third.

The 31-year-old reportedly wants to join Barcelona to play under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are moving aggressively this summer, targeting big-money moves for Anthony Gordon and Julian Alvarez. They have now turned to Silva.

Intriguingly, Atletico and Barca are already embroiled in a serious battle over Alvarez.

Barcelona want the Argentine and are using the media to fuel speculation about his future.

Atletico responded (via Marca), saying: “We are tired of months of lies, half-truths, harassment of our players in mixed zones, and absurd questions that are all part of a pre-arranged campaign.

“Julian is not for sale. There has been no offer for our player, nor any meeting. It’s just agent talk.

“Julian has behaved impeccably at all times, giving his all on the pitch and demonstrating maximum professionalism. We know he didn’t cause all this noise – he has always behaved perfectly.”
