The Lewis family have issued a statement to Tottenham Hotspur fans after narrowly escaping relegation from the Premier League.
The club owners have finally broken their silence to address the team’s struggles and future plans.
The family accepted responsibility for Tottenham’s difficult situation and promised to turn things around by investing more to rebuild the club.
It was the first time the owners had directly addressed supporters since taking control of Spurs through ENIC more than two decades ago.
“As owners of 25 years, we have lived the highs and lows of Spurs with you,” the statement read.
“Finishing 17th this and last season does not reflect the stature or potential of this football club. We are bitterly disappointed and share your frustration.
“You and we expect more than this. We know this must never happen again.”
The statement came only days after Tottenham secured their Premier League place with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton in their final fixture.
The victory confirmed a second consecutive 17th-place finish, with Spurs ending the season just above West Ham United in the table.
For a club that had lofty ambitions at the start of the season, it didn’t take long for their campaign to go pear-shaped, and they spent the majority of the season battling to survive.
Tottenham had failed to win a Premier League game in 2026 before Roberto De Zerbi was appointed manager.
He suffered a narrow defeat against Sunderland on his debut but was also the mastermind behind a late-season resurgence that helped Tottenham avoid a catastrophic relegation.
Tottenham collected 11 points from his seven games in charge (W3, D2, L2) to avoid relegation by two points.
The Lewis family admitted they were ‘bitterly disappointed’ by the club’s decline and said they understood supporters had lost trust in the ownership.
They promised to invest heavily in several areas, including the first team, academy system and club operations.
