Tottenham Supporters’ Trust issues a warning to the club’s hierarchy after relegation scare

The mood around Tottenham Hotspur has significantly improved after surviving a massive Premier League relegation scare, but they’re not out of the woods yet.

At least not in the eyes of their supporters, many of whom believe the club still has plenty of problems to sort out over the summer.

A nerve-racking 1-0 victory over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday, courtesy of Joao Palhinha’s first-half goal, helped them avoid relegation in their final fixture.

Even though West Ham United obliterated Leeds United 3-0 in a final-day thumping at the London Stadium, Tottenham finished two points clear of the relegation zone.

Despite the reprieve, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) has made it clear that the club should not think of survival as an achievement.

In a strongly worded statement released after the final round of matches, the group warned that this season should serve as a major wake-up call for the club hierarchy.

“We are extremely relieved that the team has avoided relegation,” THST’s statement read (via football.london). “However, survival is most certainly not cause for celebration.

“This season must be viewed as a very serious warning, not a success.

“It goes without saying that the standards and ambitions of this club should always extend far beyond simply remaining in the Premier League, and meaningful change will be required to deliver that.

“Finishing where we have is not the outcome of one bad result or one difficult season alone. It is the consequence of repeated failures, poor decisions, and a lack of leadership over a sustained period.

“We have consistently highlighted what we believe to be strategic and systemic failures, both on and off the pitch.

“Warnings have been ignored, standards have slipped, and supporters have been asked to accept decline for far too long.

“There must now be a moment of reckoning for the club. Honest reflection, accountability, and meaningful change are required if the club is to recover and rebuild.”

Tottenham are expected to sanction a major squad rebuild this summer, especially after manager Roberto de Zerbi admitted there are only 12 decent players at the club.
