Newcastle United have handed academy graduate Lewis Miley a new long-term contract after he agreed fresh terms until 2032.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Newcastle’s brightest young talents over the past two seasons, and they have now moved to secure his long-term future at St James’ Park.
Miley made 34 appearances in all competitions for Eddie Howe’s side this term.
The England Under-21 international was used in several different positions and even filled in at right-back during Newcastle’s injury-hit run-in.
His campaign was eventually cut short after suffering a broken leg in training, forcing him to miss the final three matches of the season.
Despite that setback, Newcastle expect Miley to return in time for pre-season later this summer.
Speaking after signing his new contract, Miley said: “I’m really pleased to sign this new contract and commit my future here.
“It’s a dream to be representing Newcastle United, so this is a proud moment for me.
“It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead. I’m now working hard every day to get back on the pitch even stronger next season.”
Howe also praised Miley’s attitude and development since emerging from Newcastle’s academy system.
“Lewis fully deserves his new contract as recognition for everything he has achieved over the last few years,” the Newcastle manager said..
“He’s earned every opportunity and has proven himself to be more than capable of performing at the highest level.
“Players like Lewis are a dream to work with. He’s immensely talented, keen to learn and approaches everything with a brilliant attitude.”
Miley is widely regarded internally as one of Newcastle’s most important long-term assets, and his new deal represents another major boost for the club ahead of the summer transfer window.
The midfielder’s emergence has also strengthened Newcastle’s growing focus on youth development as the club continue s to plan for the future under Howe.
