Incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was in Germany to watch the DFB-Pokal final between Bayern Munich and Stuttgart yesterday.
Many people believe the Portuguese tactician was on a mission to scout Bayern playmaker Michael Olise.
Los Blancos desperately need a world-class right-winger to balance their frontline, and Olise is reportedly at the top of their shortlist.
Olise has been sensational since joining Bayern two seasons ago, registering 22 goals and 31 assists in 51 appearances to take his tally for the club to 96 goal contributions in 107 outings.
However, Bayern’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, has issued a hands-off warning to Madrid.
Hoeness said (via Lisa de Ruiter): “He can cast five eyes on Olise, he won’t get him. He’s staying unsellable.
“I hope I won’t meet him (Mourinho), because he could have saved himself the trip from Madrid.”
Mourinho watched Olise deliver a sublime performance, although Harry Kane stole the show. He bagged a hat-trick to help Bayern clinch the cup for the first time in six years.
The market isn’t exactly buzzing with many exciting right-wing options.
Mourinho should consider playing Endrick on the wing
Mourinho does not need to scour the market for a blockbuster right-wing signing. He may already have the perfect internal solution in Endrick.
The Brazilian wonderkid is not a traditional touchline-hugging winger who wants to beat his man and whip crosses into the box every five minutes.
He is fundamentally a striker, but one who naturally drifts into the right half-space to influence games.
Endrick has the explosiveness to attack defenders one-v-one, the ball-striking to punish teams cutting inside, and the movement to become a constant goal threat arriving centrally.
Deploying him from the right flank would also create fluidity with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior rather than forcing Madrid into a rigid front three.
With the market lacking attainable elite options, Mourinho should seriously consider unlocking Endrick there rather than spending fortunes on an almost impossible Olise deal.
