Joao Felix pips Ivan Toney and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League Player of the Season award

Joao Felix has completed a remarkable career revival after being named the Saudi Pro League Player of the Season.

The Portuguese beat off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Ivan Toney following a sensational campaign.

Felix joined Al-Nassr last summer after an underwhelming spell in European football.

He has since rediscovered the swagger and cutting edge that once made him one of the world’s most coveted young stars.

Felix played a decisive role throughout the season, producing goals, assists and moments of individual brilliance.

The former Atletico Madrid star registered 26 goals and 19 assists in 47 appearances to help Al-Nassr clinch their first league title in seven years.

The award does not come as a surprise to many observers, despite the stellar campaigns of both Ronaldo and Toney.

Ronaldo once again delivered extraordinary numbers despite turning 41 earlier this year, bagging 30 goals and five assists in 37 appearances to secure his first trophy in Saudi Arabia.

Former Brentford striker Toney enjoyed a prolific season in Saudi Arabia after adapting seamlessly to the demands of the division.

Toney delivered 42 goals and 11 assists in 49 outings to spearhead Al-Ahli to successive AFC Champions League titles.

However, league officials and voters ultimately sided with Felix, whose all-round influence and consistency tipped the scales in his favour.

Felix’s resurgence has quickly become one of the stories of the Saudi football season.

After difficult periods at Atletico, Chelsea and Barcelona, many people questioned whether the forward would ever fulfil the promise he showed during his breakthrough years at Benfica.

The move to Saudi Arabia has given him a platform to rebuild both confidence and reputation.

Freed from the intense scrutiny that followed him across Europe, Felix has looked inventive and decisive again.

For a player many believed had stalled permanently, this season may prove to be the true beginning of his second act.
