Harry Kane inspires Bayern Munich to end six-year German Cup wait with record display

Bayern Munich beat VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the German Cup final today, ending their six-year wait for the trophy and securing the title for the 21st time.

The victory capped off a fantastic season for the Bavarians. They won the Bundesliga for a record-extending 35th time and reached the Champions League semi-final.

England international Harry Kane delivered another exceptional performance for Bayern, scoring a hat-trick.

Kane came close to scoring in the first half from close range, but was denied by a timely tackle from Ramon Hendricks.

He eventually broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, producing a diving header to convert Michael Olise’s deflected cross.

Kane scored his second in the 80th minute. After receiving a pass from Luis Diaz, he superbly turned past his marker Chema Andres, before picking out the bottom corner.

The England international completed his hat-trick in extra-time from the penalty spot, beating the outstretched Alexander Nubel with a low shot.

Kane scored eight times against Stuttgart this season, the most he has scored against an opponent.

He also became the third player to score in every round of the German Cup in a single season.

Only Gerd Muller managed to score more than him in a single campaign for Bayern in the competition’s history.

The 32-year-old ends the season with 61 goals and seven assists in 51 appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Manager Thomas Tuchel will be hoping that he can continue his superb form with England at this summer’s World Cup.
