Guardiola reveals his biggest regret at Man City: ‘I didn’t give him a chance’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced he will leave the Premier League giants after a decade of success.

The Spanish tactician has enjoyed a hugely successful tenure in England, winning all the top honours.

However, not everything has been smooth sailing for Guardiola. He revealed that he has regrets about his time with the Cityzens.

The Man City boss revealed that one of the major ones was not giving Joe Hart a chance to prove himself when he first arrived.

He said (via Sky Sports): “I want to confess something, I have just one regret – I didn’t give Joe Hart a chance with me, to prove how good a keeper he was.”

Guardiola took charge of Man City in 2016 and wanted a ball-playing goalkeeper between the sticks.

It did not help that Hart was also going through a poor spell. He had endured a catastrophically bad 2016 European Championship.

Guardiola immediately signed Claudio Bravo and gave him the starting berth ahead of the Englishman, a decision he has since come to regret.

Bravo proved to be a poor signing for Man City from his debut against Manchester United. His kicking was mediocre, and his shot-stopping was nothing to write home about.

Hart left for Torino on loan before subsequent moves to West Ham United, Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur, and Celtic.

The former England number one took Guardiola’s decision well. In his words, they both made the most of a bad situation.

Guardiola has since changed his stance on ball-playing goalkeepers. He made Gianluigi Donnarumma his first-choice this season, despite him being notably average with his feet.

The Spaniard is expected to take a sabbatical before returning to take charge of a national team. Enzo Maresca will replace him.
