Celtic secure domestic double with 3-1 win over Dunfermline in Scottish Cup final

Celtic completed another domestic double after beating Dunfermline Athletic 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park today.

Just one week after sealing the Scottish Premiership title, Celtic finished the season with more silverware as Martin O’Neill guided them to a comfortable victory over Championship opposition.

Goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels gave Celtic complete control before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho wrapped up the win in the second half.

Dunfermline did score a late consolation through Josh Cooper, but the outcome had long since been decided as Celtic secured yet another domestic trophy.

The Scottish champions survived an early scare when Callumn Morrison capitalised on hesitation in the Celtic defence and poked an effort towards goal, only for Liam Scales to clear off the line.

That warning quickly sparked Celtic into life.

Maeda opened the scoring in the 19th minute after John Tod failed to deal with a long pass from Alistair Johnston. The Japanese forward raced through and lifted the ball over Aston Oxborough.

Celtic continued to dominate possession and territory throughout the first half as Dunfermline struggled to cope with their movement and intensity.

Their second goal arrived nine minutes before the break when Engels was afforded far too much space outside the area before driving a powerful low effort beyond Oxborough from distance.

Neil Lennon attempted to change the flow of the match with a triple substitution at half time and Dunfermline briefly improved after the restart.

Chris Kane and Zak Rudden gave the underdogs more presence in attack, while Alfons Amade came close with a long-range effort that drifted narrowly wide.

Celtic always looked capable of scoring another goal.

Iheanacho initially had an effort ruled out for offside before finally getting his reward in the 73rd minute after weaving through the Dunfermline defence and finishing from close range.

The former Leicester City striker has enjoyed a strong finish to the season and once again made a decisive impact from the bench.

Dunfermline at least gave their supporters something to celebrate late on when Cooper tapped home after a blocked effort fell kindly into his path.

But Celtic comfortably saw out the closing stages to seal a domestic double and continue their dominance of Scottish football.
