Napoli looking to poach Massimiliano Allegri from AC Milan

Napoli are looking to poach Massimiliano Allegri from AC Milan this summer, according to Calciomercato.

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is believed to be pushing hard for the experienced manager following Antonio Conte’s departure this summer.

The 2024/25 champions had initially hoped to convince Maurizio Sarri to replace Conte, but the Lazio manager was hesitant to take the job.

Sarri reportedly has a more attractive offer from Atalanta. The Italian tactician prefers the sporting project at the New Balance Arena, forcing Napoli to look elsewhere.

Sarri’s reluctance has opened the door for Napoli to push for Allegri.

The Partenopei have had their eye on Allegri for some time, and sporting director Giovanni Manna recently had dinner with him in Milan.

They share a long history from their time together at Juventus, and the meeting reportedly included a renewed discussion about a two-year contract proposal first presented around a year ago.

Despite Napoli’s interest, Allegri is focused on seeing out the season with Milan.

The Rosonerri are currently locked in a four-way race for two Champions League places, making their final home game against Cagliari a must-win.

Milan are third in the Serie A table, but anything other than a win in their final fixture could jeopardise their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Allegri’s contract with Milan runs until 2027. Intriguingly, a top-four finish will automatically extend his contract until 2028 and secure a major financial package over the coming years.

The Italian’s future at the San Siro is far from certain, and much could depend on upcoming talks with Milan owner Gerry Cardinale.

Allegri reportedly wants rock-solid assurances about the club’s sporting structure and future plans before committing himself fully to the club.
