Liverpool gain upper hand in race to sign Yan Diomande

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has emerged as a leading target for Liverpool this summer.

The Reds reportedly consider him an ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah. They also believe that he can get the best out of Alexander Isak.

The Athletic now claims Liverpool are leading the race to sign Diomande, having had positive discussions with the player’s entourage, although they have yet to open talks with Leipzig.

They intend to keep the Ivorian beyond this summer and are ready to offer him a new salary on improved terms. Their position has been strengthened by qualifying for the Champions League.

However, they could change their stance if they receive an offer exceeding €100 million (£87m).

A deal would also be dependent on Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League.

Diomande has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, but they need to sell before pursuing a possible deal.

Leipzig triggered Diomande’s €20m release clause to sign him from Leganes last summer.

Diomande has enjoyed a brilliant debut season, tallying 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

He has been named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season, beating Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vuskovic and Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza.

The 19-year-old will feature for the Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup.

Diomande made his international debut in October and has become a regular in the line-up. He started five of their six games at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
