Arsenal crowned Premier League champions as Manchester City drop decisive points at Bournemouth

Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday.

City needed to win to keep their title hopes alive until the final matchday, but fell short.

Bournemouth scored the opening goal, with Junior Kroupi curling the ball into the top corner.

The Cherries missed several chances to extend their lead. Their profligacy proved costly as Erling Braut Haaland salvaged a point for City in stoppage time.

City’s congested fixture schedule affected them against Bournemouth.

The Cityzens have played five games since the start of the month, including Saturday’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Manager Pep Guardiola made one change to the starting line-up, replacing Omar Marmoush with Mateo Kovacic.

Kovacic struggled to make an impact, alongside regulars Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo.

Semenyo and Silva’s performances were the most telling, as Guardiola replaced the pair before the hour mark.

Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden were brought on to inject more vibrancy, but they failed to create a chance.

City must put their title disappointment aside as they prepare to host Aston Villa on Sunday.

While nothing is riding on the fixture for both sides, City will be aiming to give Guardiola a fitting send-off.

The Spaniard will reportedly leave the club at the end of the season, although he insists that he has yet to make a final decision on his future.

Guardiola would have wanted another league title before his departure, but he still won the FA Cup and League Cup this term.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly his replacement. The Italian served as Guardiola’s assistant in the 2022/23 season after being promoted from City’s academy.
