Arsenal heap pressure on Manchester City after Burnley win extends title lead

Arsenal moved one step closer to winning the Premier League after beating Burnley 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Monday.

The result extended Mikel Arteta’s side’s lead to five points over Manchester City, who face Bournemouth today.

Arsenal dominated proceedings from the start, but only registered their first shot on target in the 30th minute, when goalkeeper Max Weiss saved Eberechi Eze’s effort.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute, rising highest to guide Bukayo Saka’s corner home.

The German could have been sent off in the second half following a dangerous challenge on Lesley Ugochukwu.

City must respond at Bournemouth to keep pressure on Arsenal

Arsenal’s victory over Burnley piles more pressure on City ahead of their clash at Bournemouth.

The Cityzens must secure maximum points to keep their title hopes alive until the final matchday.

They face a daunting task as Bournemouth hold the longest unbeaten streak in the division (16) and are still pushing for European qualification.

Victory for Andoni Iraola’s side would move them within one point of Champions League places, adding more significance to the encounter.

City have an impressive record against Bournemouth, winning 16 and losing just one of their previous 17 meetings.

If City win, it could set up a dramatic Premier League finish not seen since 2011/12, when they beat Manchester United to the title on the final matchday.

Man City host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium and will be hoping to give manager Pep Guardiola a fitting send-off, but they need Arsenal to slip up at Crystal Palace.
