‘Selfish’ Salah should be dropped from Liverpool’s final game, says Rooney

Mohamed Salah recently launched a stinging criticism of Liverpool’s season and style of play under manager Arne Slot.

The Reds are set to end the season trophyless and could miss out on Champions League qualification.

Salah blasted Slot in a recent social media post, calling for a return to the ‘heavy metal’ attacking football synonymous with former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney wasn’t impressed with the 33-year-old’s comments.

He told the Wayne Rooney Show: “He wants to play heavy metal football, so he’s basically saying he wants Jurgen Klopp football.

“Now I don’t think Mo Salah can cope with that type of football anymore. I think his legs have gone to play at that high tempo and high intensity.

“If I were Arne Slot, I’d have him nowhere near the stadium in the last game. I had it with Alex Ferguson.

“I had a disagreement and fall out, and at his last game at Old Trafford, he left me out of the squad for that reason.”

Salah announced in March that he will leave Liverpool this summer after agreeing to end his contract a year early.

The Egyptian has been a faithful servant since joining from Roma in 2017. However, attacking Slot publicly reflects poorly on Salah, who has now done this twice

Slot won the Premier League title in his debut season at Liverpool. He has faced intense scrutiny from fans after a disappointing 2025-26 season.

However, the club’s hierarchy reportedly has no plans to sack him.
