Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele came off in the early moments of the Ligue 1 match against Paris FC, prompting fears he could miss the Champions League final on May 30.
The reigning Ballon d’Or holder pulled up, and the club will be sweating over his fitness ahead of the game against Arsenal.
According to the Parisian club, he came off as a precaution due to discomfort in his right calf.
Dembele will remain in treatment over the coming days, and PSG remain just as confident about his participation in the Champions League final against Arsenal.
The Frenchman has been central to Luis Enrique’s attacking structure this season, not merely because of his output. He roams into half spaces between defensive lines and creates chaos.
His movement from the right into central zones has repeatedly unsettled elite defences.
Dembele’s ability to carry the ball under pressure gives PSG an escape route when opponents attempt to press aggressively.
Even if the club is publicly relaxed, there will still be concern internally.
Muscle issues this close to a final can be unpredictable, especially for a player whose game relies heavily on sharp acceleration and sudden changes of direction.
PSG’s medical staff are unlikely to take any unnecessary risks in the coming days.
The timing is also unfortunate given Dembele’s recent form.
After a difficult start to the season hampered by injuries, he has looked sharper, more composed and far more decisive in high-pressure moments than at any other point in his career.
That evolution has transformed PSG from an entertaining side into one capable of controlling matches against Europe’s best.
If he is fully fit, Arsenal will face the difficult task of containing one of the few attackers in world football capable of dismantling an organised defensive shape almost single-handedly.
