Kai Havertz fires Arsenal closer to Premier League title with winner against Burnley

Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Monday.

The visitors carved out the game’s first opening inside two minutes as Zian Flemming picked out Florentino Luis on the edge of the box, but he dragged his first-time effort wide.

Leandro Trossard picked out Kai Havertz from a short corner at the other end, but he steered his effort wide.

Trossard went close to opening the scoring, but his effort came back off the post.

The Clarets threatened again on the break as Mathis Tchaouna found Hannibal Mejbri at the back post, but he blazed over the bar.

Havertz fired the Gunners ahead in the 37th minute after he rose highest to meet Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Saka nearly doubled Arsenal’s advantage after latching onto Havertz’s pass, but his curling effort drifted just wide.

Jaidon Anthony almost restored parity for the visitors after Eberechi Eze was dispossessed, but his effort flew over the bar.

The hosts came close to doubling their lead once more, but Eze’s volley from Cristhian Mosquera’s cross crashed against the woodwork.

Arsenal escaped punishment in the 67th minute when VAR upheld referee Paul Tierney’s call to show Havertz a yellow card for his rash challenge on Wesley Ugochukwu.

The Gunners held on to secure all three points, and another win at Crystal Palace on the final day will confirm their first Premier League title since 2004.
