Manchester United claimed a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Luke Shaw put United ahead inside three minutes with a precise finish into the bottom corner, scoring his first goal in 41 months.
Morgan Gibbs-White could’ve restored parity for the visitors after he was picked out by Omari Hutchinson, but Senne Lammens kept out his effort.
At the other end, the hosts broke quickly through Matheus Cunha, who slipped in Bryan Mbeumo, but his dinked effort came back off the post.
Nicolas Dominguez went close to drawing the Tricky Trees level after he met Elliot Anderson’s free kick at the back post, but he headed just over the bar.
Mbeumo squandered a glorious opportunity to double United’s lead after the break, firing over from close range after meeting Amad Diallo’s near-post cross.
Rodrigues Morato restored parity for Forest in the 53rd minute, heading home Anderson’s delivery from a short corner.
United responded immediately as Matheus Cunha rifled home beyond Sels. Despite a VAR review for a suspected handball from Mbeumo, the goal was awarded.
Mbeumo wasted another huge chance to extend the Red Devils’ lead, blazing over from 15 yards after being picked out by Bruno Fernandes.
He eventually made it 3-1 after connecting with Fernandes’ pass. Fernandes has equalled the Premier League assist record (20), previously set by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
The Tricky Trees responded straight away, with Gibbs-White reducing the deficit two minutes later after being teed up by Anderson.
Fernandes came close to breaking the Premier League assist record after setting up Patrick Dorgu, but Sels produced a crucial save to deny him.
Diogo Dalot came agonisingly close to adding another for United in stoppage time, but his effort struck the post.
