Ancelotti snubs club returns to lead Brazil until the 2030 World Cup

Carlo Ancelotti has signed a new contract extension as Brazil manager that will keep him in charge of the national team until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, extending Ancelotti’s stay by another four years.

The Italian became the first foreign manager in Brazil’s history when he left Real Madrid to lead the five-time world champions last year.

Ancelotti said he was delighted to continue the project after what he described as a positive first year with the national team.

“I arrived in Brazil a year ago,” Ancelotti said in a statement released by the federation. From the first minute, I understood what football means to this country.

“For a year, we have been working to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world.”

“But the CBF and I want more. More victories, more time, more work. We are very happy to announce that we will continue together for another four years.

“We will go together until the 2030 World Cup.”

The 66-year-old has overseen 10 matches since taking over, recording five wins, two draws and three defeats.

Brazil will head into the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada with renewed stability after several turbulent years following the departure of former coach Tite after the 2022 tournament.

They previously moved through multiple managers, including Ramon Menezes, Fernando Diniz and Dorival Junior, during an unsettled period for the national team.

The federation’s persistence has now been rewarded with long-term continuity ahead of two major tournament cycles.

Ancelotti will lead Brazil at the upcoming World Cup before also overseeing their 2028 Copa America campaign.

Brazil last won the Copa America in 2019 and is still searching for their first World Cup triumph since 2002.

While results under Ancelotti have been mixed, there has been a growing sense of calm and confidence around the squad since his arrival.

The Italian’s reputation and experience remain among the strongest in world football.

Ancelotti has won league titles in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy while also lifting multiple Champions League trophies.

He has managed some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Chelsea, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli.

By the time the 2030 World Cup arrives, Ancelotti will be 70 years old.

Brazil clearly believe he is the right man to guide them through what they hope will be another successful era on the international stage.
