Inter Milan beat Lazio to win 10th Coppa Italia and complete domestic double

Inter Milan beat Lazio 2-0 in the Coppa Italia final at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday to win the competition for the 10th time.

They broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after Adam Marusic guided Federico Dimarco’s cross into his own net.

Dimarco almost turned provider again in the 24th minute, crossing into the box for Denzel Dumfries. Nuno Tavares kept his goal-bound volley out.

The Serie A champions doubled their advantage in the 35th minute. Dumfries threaded a delightful ball into the area for Lautaro Martinez to apply the finish at the back post.

Lazio goalkeeper Edoardo Motta was then called into action, denying Piotr Zielinski.

The Biancocelesti created their first real attempt just before the break. Mattia Zaccagni fed Gustav Isaksen, but his low shot was deflected wide.

Before the hour mark, Tijjani Noslin’s shot drifted narrowly past the post as Lazio upped the ante.

Lazio continued to enjoy the lion’s share of the possession, but found it difficult to break down Inter’s defence.

Inter’s first genuine chance in the second period came off courtesy of substitute Luis Henrique. He combined with Dimarco before flashing his first-time effort wide.

Joseph Martinez made a fine save to keep Inter 2-0 ahead in the 75th minute, smothering Boualaye Dia’s close-range shot.

Inter’s victory means they have won the Coppa Italia and Serie A title in the same season for the first time since 2009/10.
