FC Porto plot move to sign Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski

FC Porto are considering a swoop for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The 37-year-old’s contract ends in June, after which he can join any club on a free transfer. The Portuguese giants are positioning themselves at the front of the queue.

Lewandowski has been sensational since signing for Barcelona four years ago, bagging 119 goals and 24 assists in 190 games to spearhead the team to three La Liga titles.

The Pole is not at the peak of his powers anymore, but he has still scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for the La Liga champions this term.

Lewandowski will consider the opportunity to continue in a top-10 European league and the possibility of extending his Champions League record with Porto.

Francesco Farioli’s side recently wrestled back the Primeira Liga title, surviving a major blow midway through the campaign when Samu Aghehowa picked up a long-term injury.

The Spanish striker will miss the 2026 World Cup and possibly the start of next season, meaning Porto would be wise to sign a top-class back-up option.

Deniz Gul did a serviceable job in Aghehowa’s absence. But with Porto now in the Champions League, they could use a higher calibre forward, and Lewandowski fits the bill.

Barcelona could still extend Lewandowski’s contract. There are only a few upgrades on the market, and the ones available will prove costly.

There are also other clubs keen on the striker in the Saudi Pro League (SPL) and Major League Soccer (MLS).
