Tottenham’s dire home form threatens survival hopes after Leeds stalemate

Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Leeds United in the Premier League on Monday.

Spurs remain without a win at home since the turn of the year. They have the joint-worst home record in the division this season.

Tottenham headed into the game needing to win to move four points clear of 18th-placed West Ham United, but nearly went behind early on.

Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky produced a brilliant save in the 21st minute, diving low to his left to keep out Joe Rodon’s header.

Spurs eventually broke the deadlock in the 50th minute as Mathys Tel curled the ball into the top corner with a brilliant strike.

However, Tel’s evening took a turn for the worse as he fouled Ethan Ampadu in the box. Referee Jarred Gillett awarded a penalty to the visitors following a VAR check.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin rifled his right-footed shot into the top-left corner.

Kinsky made another brilliant stop to deny Sean Longstaff from giving Leeds the lead. James Maddison had a penalty appeal denied before full-time.

The result leaves Tottenham with just two points above the drop zone, with two games left. They travel to Chelsea on May 19, before hosting Everton in their final league game.

Leeds have secured their top-flight status, following West Ham’s 1-0 defeat to leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

The Whites could have a say in the relegation battle as they travel to West Ham in their final game of the season.
