Real Madrid initiate contact as Mourinho lays down demands for head coach role

Real Madrid are looking to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

According to Sky Germany, the Spanish giants have made direct contact with Mourinho over a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He is open to rejoining Madrid, where he won three trophies during his stint between 2010 and 2013.

However, he wants full control and a significant say in transfers.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly the main supporter of bringing back Mourinho

It is unclear whether Perez will be ready to comply with the 63-year-old’s demands.

Mourinho has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world, but he has a confrontational management style.

He won three trophies during his last stint at Madrid, but he also fell out with several senior players.

Mourinho is currently managing Benfica, who are unbeaten in the Primeira Liga but nine points behind Porto.

The former Manchester United boss is under contract until 2027, but Madrid can trigger a €3 million release clause to secure his services.

Los Blancos are currently in crisis, as they are almost guaranteed to end the season without a trophy.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde were involved in a training-ground bust-up this week, highlighting the tension at the club.

Valverde was taken to the hospital after sustaining a ‘traumatic brain injury’.

The club announced on Thursday that they have opened disciplinary proceedings against the midfield duo
