Why do millions of Real Madrid fans want Mbappe out?

Real Madrid have had a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and are set to end the season without a trophy. 

Despite Madrid’s struggles, Mbappe has been impressive this term. He has bagged 41 goals and six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. 

However, an online petition demanding Mbappe’s removal has gathered around 40 million signatures. 

The sheer number is staggering, but it is unclear whether all 40 million signatories are Madrid fans or whether many people signed multiple times. 

However, it is fair to assume that a significant number of the club’s supporters are unhappy with the France international. 

Why people are angry with Mbappe 

Mbappe’s photographs with actress Ester Exposito, which were widely circulated on social media, appear to be the main source of their anger towards him. 

The 27-year-old was given time off to recover from a thigh injury sustained last month, but he was spotted vacationing in Italy with his partner. 

That sparked a huge reaction from the fans, who questioned his commitment to the club. 

Mbappe’s injury could rule him out of the crucial game against Barcelona this Sunday. If Madrid fail to win, the Blaugrana will be crowned champions. 

Despite the petition, Madrid are unlikely to part ways with Mbappe. The World Cup winner has been a consistent performer, and he is contracted until 2029.
