Virgil van Dijk responds to transfer rumours surrounding Curtis Jones and Alisson Becker

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has reacted to reports linking goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Curtis Jones with moves away from the club.

They recently activated the option to extend Alisson’s deal, keeping him at the club until 2027.

However, the Brazilian could still leave this summer. He is a target for Juventus, who have contacted his representatives.

Van Dijk is not concerned about the transfer rumours surrounding Alisson, although he admitted that it would be a big blow if he leaves.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “Everyone can feel a certain way about it. There are rumours, but if there is anything concrete, then we will all find out. But for me, I’m never worried.

“Listen, there is always going to be a day when you – including me – will go.

“But if it’s going to happen – and I have no idea about it, and I don’t think at this point he has an idea about it – then we will, as a club, adapt to that.

“He’s very important for me as one of the leaders in the team, and I think he is very important on the pitch because I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“He’s trying to be back as soon as possible to help us for the last four games, and that’s our main focus.

“Whatever happens after that is not something you should ask me. Would I love him to stay? Of course, there’s no doubt about that.”

Jones has also been linked with an exit. Liverpool have yet to open contract talks with the midfielder, who is approaching the final months of his contract.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Jones, while Inter Milan could make another move after trying to sign him earlier this year.

Van Dijk wants Jones to stay at Liverpool, who he feels is an ‘outstanding football player’.

The England international has recently broken into the starting line-up, starting the last three Premier League games.

Liverpool are set for another summer overhaul, with Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson set to leave the club. Federico Chiesa and Kostas Tsimikas could also be sold.
